TREE STUMP: I found this weathered tree stump on a road trip down the California Coast. My kids now love when we find these ridiculous pieces that must find a spot in the car, regardless of how stuffed it already it is. So, in it went. When I got it home, I let it dry out in the sun then I studied the shape of the branches, imaging how they might have continued. I used steel wire to wrap the roots and continue the original shape with a wind swept motion, adding shells and odds and ends. I added the stone as a grounding measure, almost as if the tree stump might take flight if it weren’t tethered to the stone.
Materials: drift wood tree stump, steel wire, hand foraged sea urchin, coral, shells and stone.
Dimensions: 4 feet by 2 feet
