HANGER: My aunt, also an artist and fellow collector of found objects, took my family to scavenge for metal in an old junk yard in Julian, Ca. This wasn’t a formally recognized junk yard, just an old ravine people used to throw their stuff in, perfect for what we needed. I found this rusted out pipe and thought it looked just like an old hanger. When I brought it home, I toyed with using different gage steel wire to make the shells feel like they were delicately suspended, almost caught mid flight.
Materials: Steel pipe, steel wire, hand foraged shells, coral, stone, and copper tubing.
Dimensions: 2 ½ feet by 2 ½ feet
